Andrew Harris (sound designer, musician and composer)
Complex, ambient soundscapes. Signed to Alphabasic. Discography to date includes Subrupt (2010), Phantom Island (2010) and Shadows (2013).
Bartel’s music has been described as “haunting, yet melodic; down-tempo, yet driving. Swelling ambient soundscapes meet with deep glitch cuts, while a dub sensibility keeps it all sounding like a distant memory.” More to the point, the Bartel aesthetic explores the intersection between ultra-modern synthesis, location recording, and experimental sound design, encouraging an approach to song writing which is both technical and cinematic.
The man behind Bartel is Andrew Harris, a sound designer, musician, and composer, based out of Vancouver, Canada. As well as his work under the Bartel alias, he has also remixed The Flashbulb, and carried out sound design for several global advertising agencies (Ogilvy and Mather, Publicis, Y&R, MacLaren McCann, and Saatchi & Saatchi) for clients including Coke, Ford, Dove, Rogers, RBC, and Bell.
