Forró Brazuca

Francelino Alves (Accordion), Carlos Oliveira (Electric Bass, Cavaquinho), Chris Thomas (Drums, Zabumba), Paulo Presotto (Triangle)

Traditional Brazilian music from San Francisco musicians.

Forró Brazuca plays traditional northeastern Brazilian forró music like no other group outside Brazil.

Often dubbed “music for maids and taxi drivers”, forró combines romantic and humorous lyricism with the energy of a dancehall party. Inspired by the music of wild accordionist Luiz Gonzaga, Jackson do Pandeiro, Trio Virgulino, Trio Nordestino and Dominguinhos, Forró Brazuca performs this traditional and rootsy dance music at its festive, rollicking best.

Thanks to the leadership of accordionist Francelino Alves, this San Francisco-based quartet of Brazilians packs dance floors with their forró, xote, and rastapé grooves.

Bassist Carlos Oliveira from Pernambuco, drummer Chris Thomas from Rio de Janeiro, and percussionist/vocalist Paulo Presotto from São Paulo provide the modern and electric backup for Francelino’s traditional, salt-of-the-earth approach. The result is dance music that is romantic and irresistible - the hottest Brazilian dance party available!
